Marmite turns up on almost every low-tyramine migraine diet sheet, and on paper it belongs there: a 1969 study in the Journal of Food Science measured five yeast extracts and found Marmite carried the most tyramine of the lot. The odd part is that migraine sufferers rarely report it as a trigger, while aged cheese, which has similar levels, gets blamed constantly. Either the tyramine theory is wrong or something else is going on. Dose, your own enzymes and the way trigger lists get compiled all look more convincing than the chemistry on its own.
